New material

Just received this in the mail. Should let me watercolor on varied surfaces–testing on cardboard first. It wants 24-72 hours to cure. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Drawing practice 10/29/12

The overall drawing was bad enough to distract from the delightful details, so I’m only showing those details. Drawing with a size 0 liner brush feels like calligraphy-dancing with the canvas. Lots of room for happy accidents.

Drawing in oil

Talking with Sarah every week during drawing practice yields new ideas and launches me in new directions. "What would make oils as fun as watercolors?" she asked when I was describing oil painting as a struggle compared to my quick-and-dirty watercolor sketches. "Drawing?" I guessed. So here is attempt number one at drawing with oil paints. It was, in fact, fun. It probably looks like the first layer of a more traditional painting, but I want to take this idea in a different direction. Stay tuned.
